This Colt Woodsman Target Serial Number 65225-S was a special order by the US Government to be utilized and part of Arctic Survival Kits.  This particular pistol was shipped to the Transportation Officer at the Ogden Air Material Area in Ogden, Utah on August 24th, 1949 in a 925 gun shipment.

Special features of this pistol note that it was finished with a Fixed 1/10" front sight blade integral with a ramp base and a semi-fixed 1/10" rear sight.  The following items were omitted: the slide stop, the magazine safety, the lanyard loop, the grip adapters and screwdriver.

In June of 1949 Colt contracted with the U.S. government to deliver 950 Woodsman Target pistols.  These were to be the standard commercial target model but with modified sights.  925 of these pistols were shipped in August of 1949 to the Transportation Officer at the Ogden Air Material Area in Ogden Utah.  In the cold war days the USAF was flying nuclear armed bombers over the arctic regions to provide a response should an attack come from the Soviet Union.  The Colt packing list indicates that the pistols were for use in Arctic Survival Kits.

The other 25 pistols in the contract were sent to the Springfield Ordnance Depot.  Serial numbers of all 950 pistols were in the 64000-S and 65000-S range.  Many of these were later declared surplus and sold to U.S. citizens via the DCM program.  They had no military markings of any type.
