This Colt 1908 Pocket Hammerless was shipped to the Transportation Officer at the Springfield Armory Ordnance Depot on May 19th, 1945.  It was a shipment of 92 pistols.

Special remarks on the letter from colt: As noted above, subject pistol was originally shipped from the factory without the "M" prefix.  However from notations in our records and information supplied by independent researches, we have determined that around December of 1944 a number of these automatics were returned to Colt's for rework.  It was at this time that the "M" prefix was added.

This is a type V pocket hammerless as indicated by the M1911A1 sights, and 19 slide serrations.  It also incorporates a 3 3/4" barrel w/ integrated barrel bushing.

This pistol was eventually sold to the general public on July 31st, 1964.  It was sold by the Letterkenny Ordnance Depot in Letterkenny, PA.  The shipping document number is A5250B-4181-9501.  It was sold to Mr. R.M. Calland of Springfield, VA.
