This Colt M1917 Revolver was shipped on April 22nd, 1918 to the Commanding Officer at Springfield Armory.  It has a corse brushed blue finish with wood grips.  Special features on the factory letter indicate that it was finished with a lanyard swivel.

The number on the butt of the pistol is 56674.

The revolver was built to utilize the 45ACP cartridge which is a rimless cartridge.  Half moon or full moon clips are needed to load this revolver with the 45ACP cartridge.

This Colt has the JMG (John M. Gilbert) inspector stamp.  Major John M. Gilbert was the Army Inspector of Ordnance from August 10th 1917 - March 29th 1918.
