This Colt Government Model was Delivered to D.G. Phelps who was the Sales Manager at the Colt Manufacturing Company on April 11th, 1921 in a single gun shipment.  The factory letter states that the records further indicate that subject pistol was returned on May 7th, 1924 and subsequently sold to Shenk & Tittle in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and shipped to Elmira Arms Company in Elmira, New York on May 20th, 1924 in a shipment of 1 gun.

Colt would utilize pistols to display at their corporate offices and retailers to showcase their products.  It's is believed from the data in this letter that this pistol was on display at Colt until the changes for the M1911A1 or "New Model" trickled down into production.  At the time the letter shows this pistol being returned into inventory and subsequently sold to a dealer would have been around the time of the production changes.  The "New Model" started shipping in February of 1924, therefore it's believed this would have been one of the last models to leave the factory.
