This Colt Model 1905 Marine Corps Revolver was sold to the United States Government and shipped to the Depot Quartermaster in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 14th, 1908 in a 100 gun shipment.
Attached is a copy of Colt's Order Ledgers showing the order from the United States Marine Corps had requested 100 pistols on October 15th, 1908. The price per pistol was $11.00 each at the time. They had estimated a 35 day lead time and ended shipping the pistols on November 14th, 1908.
There were 812 1905 Revolvers made for the Marine Corps during it's short existence. It was part of the evolution of the M1892 DA revolver except that it had a special round butt frame and special diamond checkered grips that were special requests of the Marines. The butt is factory marked "U.S.M.C." over the serial number "No 751". The factory assembly number "546" is stamped inside the frame, on the yoke, and is written inside each of the grips. The cylinder has two sets of notches and rotates counter-clockwise.
