The half moon front sight on the Colt Woodsman Sport was only offered for a few months during 1933 and in a very small serial number range.  These Woodsman's that have the half moon font sights were at the very start of the Woodsman Sport production run.

The sight was normally found on the Police Positive and other non-target type Colt revolvers of the era.  It would soon be replaced in production with a ramped style front sight in mid 1933.  A few months later a new barrel profile was introduced for all models.  The new heavier barrel profile featured a straight taper from receiver to muzzle, with no fillet forward of the receiver, and replaced the medium weight barrel as found on this pistol.  Due to the changeover of the new style coming so soon after the Sport Model was introduced, the heavier barrel profile is the type found on the majority of First Series Woodsman Sport models.
