This Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless was shipped to the Winchester-Simmons Company of Chicago, Illinois on April 7th, 1925 in a 30 gun shipment.

This particular example is one of the first guns with wood grips and flush medallions had two very significant aspects to the grips. One. they had forward facing horses in the medallions on the right side. and two. they had pointed toes on both sides like the earlier hard rubber grips that had preceded them. These early 1924 grips were changed almost right away though because the right side flush medallions ran out before the end of the first month of production. Also. because of the checkering at the toes. the points tended to break off during assembly.

It was decided that the toes should be rounded off which they were from then on until the end of production. Also listed is a second gun has a slightly lower serial number than the this pistol.  It has the second type of flush medallion wood grips. undoubtedly due to typical Colt factory non-sequential assembly procedures.  It also demonstrates how quickly changes like this took place.
