This Colt 1903 was shipped to the Transportation Officer at the New York Port of Embarkation in Brooklyn New York on December 4th, 1944 in a 2,000 gun shipment. This is considered to be a type V pistol. Note the change in the sights. The front sight is a ramped and the rear sight is larger as used on the M1911A1.
This particular 1903 Colt was sent to England in support of the British war effort. Notice the the British proof marks on the right side just under the U.S. PROPERTY marking and on the barrel and on the slide just behind the ejection port. This particular example appears it was never issued and was eventually returned unissued under the terms of the lend lease agreement.
This pistol is accompanied with it's shipping box. Note the kraft paper that tapes over the edges to the bottom. The serial number of the pistol is written on the bottom side of the box.
