This Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless is associated with the CIA. The non-standard serial number provided deniability to the U.S. Government. Examples of these pistols have had their original serial numbers, ordnance acceptance and U.S. PROPERTY markings removed. A new serial number was applied with a different stamp.
It is believed that these unmarked and renumbered guns were placed in secret weapons caches in countries to which the U.S. was losing access. Several examples have been discovered. The 800,000 serial number ranges were supposedly cached in European countries and that those in the 900,000 range were cached in South American countries.
This is a type V pocket hammerless pistol and that would translate to 1944 or sometime later.
