This Colt M1911A1 was built and shipped in October of 1937 and shipped to the Springfield Armory in a 250 pistol shipment. Pistols from 711606-712349 were procured for the U.S. Navy.
1937 M1911A1's are finished in Colt's brushed blue with 28 row checkered walnut grips. The majority of 1937 M1911A1's observed had barrels that were in the white visible through the ejection port area.
This particular 1937 Production pistol is later in the production cycle and has the P proof marks on the frame and the top of the slide forward the rear sight. Earlier production pistols have been observed without these markings.
The serial number of the pistol marked on the side of the frame is also on the slide underneath the firing pin stop plate. Colt started this practice in 1937 which continued through 1943. The practice was then stopped somewhere approximately in the hundred and thirteen million serial number range.
