This Colt Government Model was shipped to the London Armoury Company, 31 Bury Stret, St. James, S.W. 1, London, England on January 22nd, 1923 in a 10 gun shipment.

The majority of government models that shipped to England leading up to this point were in the .455 Webley caliber.  This particular pistol is labeled on the slide as a 45acp, letters as a 45acp and still has the original 45acp barrel.

This particular pistol shows the British proof marks on the left hand side which was common practice for all firearms that were imported into the country during this period.  This pistol also have the "JJ" mark on the underside of the dust cover.

The JJ mark was stamped by James Joseph Goodbody between 1911 and 1913 when he ran Colt's London Agency. The Agency closed in 1913 but the London Armoury Co became Colt's exclusive distributor in England and they continued to use the same stamp until about 1930. This was to avoid warrantee responsibility for guns that were not sold through them. Colt's that went to England through other channels (military or private imports) will not have the JJ stamp.
