This Colt M1911 was shipped on February 17th, 1914 in a 1,000 gun shipment to the Commanding Officer at the Rock Island Arsenal of Rock Island, Illinois.
This Colt M1911 is wearing Colt's fine brushed blue finish with dark blue small parts. By this time during production the rear sight had been changed from a rounded rear sight to the more squared off version as seen on this particular pistol. The initial changeover occurred somewhere between serial numbers 60,000-62,000.
This pistol is inspected by Major Walter G. Penfield (WGP) just above the magazine release on the left hand side of the frame. Major Penfield was the inspector of ordnance from January 2nd, 1911 - September 30th, 1914.
